Class exchange to Greece

In April (21-30/4/2012) the Latvian group visited Greece. After a short stay in Athens, where they went sightseeing, we received them in Arta. During their stay the students from both countries had the opportunity to share and exchange elements of their cultures and civilizations, do language  practice, work on the project?s site  and get to know as much as possible  the Greek way of life  food,  customs and habits.

In school we had activities aiming at building up the students? feelings of collaboration and tolerance, and working against stereotypes and prejudices. We wanted to show them that although we are individuals we still share common grounds. Moreover, a doctor gave the students a lecture on First Aids.

In the concept of volunteering, we organized a tree plantation event on the town?s hill and we cleaned a nearby beach. We also visited the Red Cross premises where they were given a presentation of its work.

As a result, the students realized the needs of contemporary society and that themselves can do things to offer their help and concern. I think, that the activities, we got them involved in, made them more mature and socially aware. Furthermore, collaborating closely with people from another country was a worthy experience linguistically, educationally and personally.
